Parker Silvertip Shaving Brush Review

Today I’m wrapping up our shaving brush review series, and we have saved the best shaving brush for last — Parker’s 100% silvertip shaving brush.

This beauty is my favorite silvertip and it also happens to be the most popular silvertip on the market probably. And for good reason.

It’s an incredibly well-made, premium shave brush that isn’t crazy expensive. No, it isn’t as cheap as an entry-level pure badger brush. But it is light years better when it comes to softness, overall performance and durability. It’s not cheap, but it is still an excellent bang for your buck.

So is it worth the money for you to buy a Parker silvertip shaving brush? Let’s find out.

Key Features

Soft Silvertip Bristles

It’s easy to get distracted by how beautiful the Parker silvertip shaving brush is and we will get to the handle in a second, but the key feature of this brush is easily the silvertip bristles. These silvertip bristles are the reason why you should consider paying a premium for a shaving brush like this.

These bristles are absolute top-quality, premium silvertip bristles. The best of the best. They are incredibly soft and I’m not sure you are going to be able to find softer bristles on a shaving brush. If there is softer silvertip badger hair out there, I haven’t found them. This softness definitely gives it a “luxury” feel and it’s always nice when you can take some of the chore out of having to shave and instead pamper yourself with a brush this nice and soft.

The other premium feature of the silvertip badger hair bristles is their water retention. Water retention is a key factor in the lathering capability of a brush, and these silvertip bristles do an incredible job at it. It takes a little time to break it in to optimal condition, but once you get it broken-in it lathers up incredibly well.

A side benefit of a brush that retains water so well is that you will probably save some money on shaving soaps and creams because you won’t go through them nearly as quick. How do? Well you should be able to get more lather out of less product. For example, if you do 2 passes during a shave, you won’t have to re-lather the brush after your first pass. Or at least I don’t. I load it, lather and then set the brush aside and it still will have so much product in it that when I’m lathering my face for round 2, it’s ready to go without having to use any more soap or cream.

Overall, the Parker silvertip brush has the softest and best bristles you are going to find. Some synthetic and best badger brushes are really great and very similar, but this is the best of the best in my opinion. If you’re looking to go from an entry-level pure badger shaving brush to Parker’s silvertip, it is going to feel like going from a Honda to a Mercedez-Benz.

Exfoliates

The Parker silvertip may have soft bristles, but it still does an excellent job at exfoliating your skin. It has such a solid and thick backbone that the soft bristles are still able to exfoliate really well.

This makes the Parker silvertip such an excellent option for men with sensitive skin. It won’t overly irritate your skin or feel coarse, but it will still open the pores, remove dead skin cells and help clean your face. It offers the best of both worlds: very soft but still exfoliates.

Durable Construction and Premium Craftsmanship

When you invest in a shaving brush that costs this much money, you should expect that it is going to be durable and last a long, long time. Well Parker is well aware of this and their silvertip is extremely durable.

It should be apparent to you by now that it is made with high-quality materials, but just as importantly the construction and craftsmanship are top-notch. After all, high-quality materials won’t last long if it’s not put together well.

The durability makes it a little more affordable over time. Think about it. You can buy a cheap brush for $20, but it might only last 1 year before needing to replace it. Or… you can buy a premium brush like this one and it should last several years which actually makes it cheaper on an annual basis.

Or think of it as a cost per shave — you should easily get at least a few years use if you take care of it. So if it lasts 2 years and you only shave twice a week, that’s less than $0.20/shave. It doesn’t seem so pricey when you break that initial cost into how much it costs o a pet shave basis.

Mild Smell Goes Away Quickly

Another great feature of Parker’s silvertip shaving brush is the lack of smell. The bristles will have a very mild smell when you first take it out of the box, but that smell should go away after a few weeks of use. And if you want, you can even speed up this process by washing the bristles with a mild shampoo before using it. This will speed up the break-in process and get rid of the smell faster.

Beautiful, Functional Handle

We are over halfway through the review and I have barely said a word about how beautiful the handle is. It’s a beautiful faux horn handle with a chrome base. It is one of the best looking shaving brushes I have. The combination of the  silvertip bristles and this faux horn handle just look incredibly sharp.

This handle is one of my favorites aesthetically, but it’s also a great size, weight and it’s very functional. It’s not just a piece of art. I always prefer a handle with a little size and heft to it and the Parker silvertip doesn’t disappoint.

Brush Stand

The brush stand that comes with the brush is a really good, functional brush stand. It is made from a durable acrylic and it has a very solid, sturdy base.

There’s nothing particularly special about the brush stand, but if you don’t already have a brush stand, this one gets the job done.

Seriously though — using a brush stand after shaving is really important. It helps ensure that the bristles will dry out properly which does 2 things 1)prevents bacteria and 2)bristles will last longer. I don’t recommend investing in a premium product like this if you’re not going to take care of it, so use the brush stand!

Who Do We Recommend The
Parker Silvertip Shaving Brush For?

If you’re looking for a premium shaving brush and have the budget for it, I highly recommend Parker’s silvertip faux horn shaving brush.

The overall performance is the best you’re going to find, in my opinion. It has incredibly soft bristles and excellent water retention. What else could you ask for?

If you are willing to spend the money, I don’t think you will regret the purchase. Take care of it and use the brush stand and the Parker silvertip will last a long, long time and give you many great lathers.

What Are Some Other Shaving Brushes To Consider?

Perfecto Pure Badger

If you’re new to wet shaving and are looking for an entry-level shaving brush, the Perfecto pure badger shaving brush is my favorite. It is very affordable, but it is still made with good materials and is durable. It might be inexpensive, but it’s not cheap in quality.

Overall, it’s just a really great beginner brush. The bristles aren’t going to be nearly as soft as a silvertip, but it still lathers up really well and will get the job done.

Vikings Blade Synthetic Shaving Brush

The Vikings Blade synthetic shaving brush is one of my favorites. I think you get incredible bang for your buck with this shaving brush.

It is made with synthetic bristles that are incredibly soft. They are not quite as premium as a silvertip in regards to softness or water retention, but it’s comparable.

So if you want a premium performance shaving brush that is in the mid-range price range, this is an excellent option.

Edwin Jagger Best Badger Shaving Brush

The Edwin Jagger best badger brush may not have silvertip bristles, but it still performs like a premium shave brush. Mueller

The best badger hair on this Edwin Jagger brush is really, really good. Not quite as soft as Parker’s silvertip, but not far off. In fact, I don’t think most wet shavers would really be able to tell the difference in all honesty.

One thing you can count on from all Edwin Jagger products is that they are incredibly well made and durable. And their best badger brush is no exception as the craftsmanship is top-quality.

The Edwin Jagger best badger is a great option for men that want a silvertip but just want a little more rigidity in the bristles. Honestly, when it comes to buying a premium shaving brush I don’t think you can wrong with either the Edwin Jagger best badger or Parker silvertip. Both are just great options.
