Pacific Shaving Co. Shaving Cream Review

Next up in our shaving cream review series is Pacific Shaving Co.

Pacific Shaving was founded by Stan Ades back in 2002. At that time, Stan had your typical corporate 9 to 5 job that required him to shave every day. And like the majority of men, shaving just felt like a chore instead of something he looked forward to. So Stan decided to take matters into his own hands and with the help of his wife, they started Pacific Shaving.

Originally, Pacific Shaving was really just a side business and Ades' were selling their first product, shaving oil, out of their house. Fast forward to today though, and they now have an extensive product line that includes shaving creams, aftershave balm, everyday beard care, shave oil, shave stock, pre-shave scrub and nick sticks. Pacific Shaving products are now available in thousands of stores: CVS, Walgreens, Target, Amazon and West Coast Shaving all sell their products.

Pacific Shaving is not your standard drug store shaving products. They really take pride in making safe, all natural, organic products. They are a very innovative company that isn’t scared to do it a little different. I'm really a big fan of their nick stick, which you should checkout if you don’t already have a styptic pencil.

Today though we are going to take a closer look at their shaving creams. Alright, let’s get into the review and see if this is the best shaving cream for you.

Key Features

Made With All-Natural, Organic Ingredients

The foundation of all good shaving cream starts with high-quality ingredients, and Pacific Shaving really knocks it out of the park with their formula. How so?

Well first of all, there’s none of the damaging ingredients you find in the old aerosol cans. There’s no propellants, no parabens, no alcohol or dyes. It’s made with only natural ingredients and it is certified organic. So what are the ingredients?

Pacific Shaving’s shaving cream is packed with natural oils and extracts: shea butter, menthol, coconut oil, vegetable oils, sunflower seed oil, spearmint. And all of these do an incredible job at two things. First, they help lubricate and protect the skin. Secondly, they hydrate the skin during a shave.

All of this makes it a really great shaving cream for men with sensitive skin that is easily irritated.

“Low Lather Formula”

Pacific Shaving Commpany’s shaving cream definitely is not your classic shaving cream in the sense that it really don’t lather up into a thick foamy lather. It does generate some lather, but it’s pretty minimal in comparison to a lot of other shaving creams on the market.

But don’t automatically assume that is a bad thing. It’s not because it’s not formulated to be a big foamy shaving cream. It’s really designed lubrication and hydration without irritation. And it does this without having to generate much lather.

Also, because it is a low lather shaving cream, there really is no reason to use a shaving brush when applying. I’m a big proponent of shaving brushes, but PSC is really easy to apply with your hands. Just put a pea-size amount of product in your wet hands, rub them together and apply all over your beard. So if you’re someone that really doesn’t want to have to buy or use a shaving brush, this is a great option.

Additionally, the light lather also makes it great for guys that shave with either a disposable razor or a cartridge. It won’t clog the blades like some other traditional shaving creams, but it’s still a huge upgrade over pretty much every other drug store shaving cream. It really does work well with any type of razor.

Caffeine or No Caffeine?

Pacific Shaving’s shaving cream is available in two options: “Natural” and “Caffeinated”.

The “Natural” line is essentially the base model. It has everything you need and is an amazing shaving cream. But if you get pretty bad razor burn or skin inflammation, then you might want to look at the “Caffeinated” line.

And Pacific Shaving adding caffeine isn’t just some marketing gimmick. You may not know this, but caffeine is an excellent antioxidant. That means it helps reduce inflammation and redness. It’s a really powerful ingredient and I’m kind of surprised more shaving companies have figured it out and also started using it as an ingredient.

Bottom line, both the natural and caffeine options are great shaving creams, but if you need a little extra boost with irritation, redness or inflammation, I recommend giving the caffeine product a try.

Great For Traveling

Pacific’s shaving cream is great for traveling for two reasons. First of all, the 3.4 ounce option is the perfect size because that makes it TSA-compliant. No worries about having it thrown out by TSA. Secondly, you don’t need a shaving brush to apply Pacific Shaving’s shaving cream. So this frees up a little room in your dopp kit by not having to pack your badger hair brush as well. I’m a huge advocate for using a shaving brush, but I’ll admit that this cream really is quick and easy to apply with your bare hands.

By the way, Pacific Shaving does also make a 7 ounce shaving cream that’s available to buy on their website, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it for sale in stores.

Who Do We Recommend Pacific Shaving Co.
Shaving Cream For?

Pacific Shaving Company’s shaving cream is a top-quality shaving cream made with all-natural ingredients. It might not lather like other more “traditional” shaving creams, but it still provides incredible lubrication and hydrates the skin. It’s a great option for men with sensitive skin and the caffeinated option particularly will really help protect the skin and minimize inflammation and irritation.

This is also an excellent option for men that are looking for a shaving cream that they don’t need a brush to apply but still has premium performance. I’m very much pro- shaving brush, but you can get away without using one here.

Lastly, Pacific’s shaving cream is also great for men that are looking for a good traveling shaving cream. Why? Two reasons. First, the 3.4 ounce tube is TSA compliant. And second, you don’t need a brush so it frees up some space in your dopp kit.

What Are Some Other Shaving Creams To Consider?

Cremo Shave Cream

Cremo shave cream is another great option for men that have sensitive skin. It is very similar to Pacific’s shaving cream because it doesn’t lather much and is easy to apply with your hands.

Performance-wise, the standout feature with Cremo is that it is an incredibly slick lubricant. It does a really great job at protecting your skin from razor burn. Overall, another really great option to consider.

Jack Black Beard Lube

Jack Black beard lube is an option that actually doesn’t lather at all. When it’s applied, it’s translucent. It was definitely a little weird using it the first couple times and being able to see the hair being shaved...

Jack Black beard lube is another very slick lubricant and I think is great for men that have minimal facial hair or men that shave everyday. Not sure I would use it if I had a few days growth because I prefer a thick lather that will hopefully soften and prep the beard, but if you’re looking for a lubricant that will also hydrate the skin, this is one of the best.

Proraso Shaving Cream

Think you might want a classic, old school shaving cream that needs to be applied with a brush and lathers up nice and thick? Then take a look at Proraso, which is one of my favorites.

Proraso is one of the most highly regarded companies in shaving and they recently upgraded their formulas and I think even made their shaving cream better. Overall, it’s an incredible lubricant and it lathers up nice and thick to soften and prep the stubble for a shave. If you’re new to wet shaving and looking for a classic shaving cream, this is one of the best.
