Classic, Old School Lather

So what makes it such a great lather? Well it’s incredibly easy to generate into a thick, rich lather.

Some shave creams get really thick when they are a lather and this can cause your safety razor to clog up. Other shave creams get too watery and dissolve too easily when on your face. But I’ve never had consistency issues with Geo F Trumper shave cream.

It’s a really great rich, deep lather. If you use a badger hair brush, it should be a breeze to get a lot of lather generates in less than a minute. I usually only do a 1 pass shave, but I always have a ton of lather left over after my 1 pass. Bottom line — you should get a minimum of 2 lathers from a small amount of product.

Another great thing about this shave cream is that it’s ridiculous easy to face lather. There’s really no need to use a bowl to lather it unless you really want to. Overall, this is one of the fastest and easiest to take from cream in the jar to a thick, creamy lather on my face.

Excellent Lubricant

There are some shaving creams out there that are really great at lathering but are not very good lubricants. There are also some shaving creams out there that are great lubricants but don’t lather very well. That’s why it is so impressive that Geo F. Trumper does both remarkably well.

In fact, I think it is one of the best lubricants when it comes to shaving creams. Why is it so great?

A big reason is that one of the ingredients is glycerin. Glycerin does an incredible job at making it really slick and helping reduce friction between the blade and your skin. It might not seem like a big deal, but this goes a long way in helping prevent irritation, cuts and razor burn.

7 Ounce Jar Lasts A Long Time

Geo F Trumper shaving cream comes in a pretty sizable container with a little over 7 ounces (200 grams) of product in it. For a comparison, most competitors are usually around 5 ounces.

So while the price might be a little more than some others on the market, you need to keep in mind they you’re getting more product. Make sure you are comparing on a per ounce basis to get an apples to apples comparison.

The other thing you need to keep in mind is that a little product goes a long way. You only need to use a little bit of product to get a whole lot of lather, so don’t be wasteful. I usually put about an almond size on my badger hair brush and that’s more than enough.

Geo F Trumper may cost more upfront than the aerosol shaving gel you’ve been getting at the drug store. But in the long run, it’s going to cost significantly less on a $/shave basis. So you’re getting a significantly higher quality product that lasts longer and is cheaper. Seems like an obvious choice, right?

I rotate through a mix of different shaving creams and soaps so it’s tough to tell how long one container of Geo F Trumper should last. But I think if you used this every day, it should last at least 3 or 4 months. And that’s probably a conservative estimate.

Good Moisturizer, Won’t Dry Out Skin

Geo’s shaving creams are really good moisturizer. The glycerin and coconut oil ingredients help moisturize and prevent dryness.

In my opinion there are shaving creams that do a better job at moisturizing, but that’s not what I’m really looking for in a shaving cream. My top priorities are 1)how good it lathers and 2)how well it lubricates. I use a high-quality moisturizer after a shave, so this isn’t all that important to me.

The most important takeaway though is that this shaving cream won’t dry your skin out. Unlike the aerosol shaving creams and gels you’ve probably been using, there are no harsh ingredients that will dry your skin out.

Mild Scent Isn't Overwhelming

I believe Geo F. Trumper sells their shaving cream in 7 different scents: coconut, almond, sandalwood, lime, rose, eucris and Spanish leather.

I’ve only ever used the coconut scent and it has a very mild smell. In fact, it’s really close to being unscented, which I like. I have heard the other scents have a very mild smell as well.

Premium Packaging

All of Geo F Trumper’s products have a very classic, minimal but premium packaging. Trumper really takes pride in delivering high-quality. It’s nothing particularly fancy, but it’s a really good container that is easy to open and ergonomic. I like the ridges on the top that make it easier to twist off.

Who Do We Recommend
Geo F. Trumper Shaving Cream For?

Geo F Trumper’s shaving cream is easily one of the best on the market. It’s a great option for pretty much any wet shaver that wants a shaving cream that lathers easily and is also a top-quality lubricant.

And while it might not have some of the “moisturizing” ingredients they you will find in some other shaving creams, it’s still incredibly really soft and gentle on your skin. There’s no bad ingredients that will dry your face out or cause irritation.

Bottom line — I can’t say enough good things about Geo F Trumper’s shaving cream and highly recommend trying it out.

What Are Some Other Shaving Creams & Soaps To Consider?

Taylor of Old Bond Street

Taylor of Old Bond Street probably has the most popular shaving cream on the market right now. I just?

Well it’s very similar and comparable to Geo F Trumper’s. It lathers incredibly well and is a superb lubricant. I think it is a slightly better moisturizer, but it’s marginal.

If you’re looking for a classic shaving cream that will lather easily and go easy on your skin, this is another great option.

eShave Shave Cream

If you have really sensitive skin, I highly recommend taking a closer look at eShave’s shave cream. What makes it so great?

Well eShave is vegan, sulfate-free and paraben-free. In other words, it’s made with only high-quality ingredients that are gentle on your skin.

It is also a top of the line moisturizer. It may not be quite as slick as Geo F Trumper, but it’s still a great lubricant.

So if you have sensitive skin or are looking for a vegan shaving cream, this is an excellent option.

Proraso Shaving Soap

Proraso is an Italian company that is synonymous with high quality shaving products. Their shave soap is one of my favorites and incredibly popular in the wet shaving community.

Why do I like it so much? The main reason is that it does a really great job at preventing razor blade irritation. It is a very slick lubricant when applied.

Additionally, the oatmeal and green tea ingredients will soothe and protect your face after a shave.

So if you haven’t considered a shaving soap, take a closer look at Proraso’s. It’s going to take a little more time and effort to whip into a lather, but it’s well worth it in my opinion.
